Henry Graham Greene adalah seorang wartawan dan kritikus media lokal sebelum  bekerja di kantor berita asing. Biografinya ditulis oleh Norman Sherry dalam edisi 3 buku. Greene banyak menulis tentang isu moral dan politik di dunia modern. Ia mampu menggabungkan karya populer dalam kerangka sastra serius. Walau menolak predikat ini, Greene juga dikenal sebagai novelis Katolik karena menulis beberapa karya yang berlatar-belakang religius, seperti: Brighton Rock, The Heart of the Matter, The End of the Affair, dan The Power and the Glory. Sedangkan karya lain banyak yang mengeksplorasi spionase dan politik internasional seperti The Quiet American, Our Man in Havana dan The Human Factor.
